Job summary
The Sterile Services Department is responsible for the decontamination and supply of sterile equipment to all operating theatres within Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital, in addition to wards, departments, Maternity, Neo-Natal, Sunderland Eye Infirmary and multiple podiatry clinics across Sunderland.
Each month between 15,000 and 17,000 trays are reprocessed by the department, plus roughly 6,000 supplementary (single) items.
The Sterile Services Department is responsible for undertaking all aspects of equipment reprocessing to ensure that all reusable medical devices are properly decontaminated and that the risks associated with decontamination facilities are adequately managed.
Our trained staff work with specialised equipment and machinery to undertake a full programme of decontaminating, packing, labelling and tracking, and sterilising of surgical equipment.
Main duties of the job
To provide a service by collecting dirty/used and delivering sterile instruments/trays/sets from/to Trust sites i.e. Sunderland Eye Infirmary, South Tyneside District General Hospital and Durham Treatment Centre as well as various other off-site clinics operated by the Trust. You will also be required to deliver other goods/packages between theatres between SRH & STDH in accordance with the Departments Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.
In addition to driving duties, you will assist in the provision of dismantling, decontamination, checking, assembly, packing, sterilisation and delivery of medical/surgical equipment and sundry items to the departments customers.

Person Specification
Physical Skills Essential
Must have manual dexterity Be able to deal with the day to day demands of the post in terms of physical activity Must be able to commit to working the departments shifts system i.e. 07:00 and evenings till 10 pm, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Experience Essential
Previous experience of working in a production style environment

Previous experience at driving a van with a MAM of 3.500 kg or higher Previous experience in sterile services or decontamination
Qualifications Essential
Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent Basic IT Skills Full Clean B driving licence allowing the holder to drive 3.500kg vans
