Job summary
Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in a substantive full-time post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, based at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant would join a close-knit team of permanent staff of three Consultant Surgeons and four Trust Doctors (Specialty Doctor level) in the OMFS department. A special interest and previous experience of delivering a Paediatric Exodontia service would be beneficial.
The Specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery sits within the Directorate provides services predominantly at Montagu but also at DRI and Rotherham General Hospital. Doncaster Royal Infirmary is the largest site and provides the base for all General emergency surgery. Major elective surgery. Elective/Emergency OMFS surgery is carried out at Rotherham District General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The main duties would consist of: OMFS out-patient clinics, Minor Oral Surgery operating lists, Occasional Day Surgery operating lists, Delivery of the Paediatric Exodontia service, Involvement in supervision, support and education of the junior staff and Involvement in the Clinical Effectiveness and Governance activity within the Service.
The appointee may be required to work across Trust sites.
At present, the appointee will not be expected to participate in any on call rota Rota
The post holder will provide
- routine clinic and MOS/theatre lists
- share responsibility for management of patients
- share responsibility for supervising and training junior doctors
- share responsibility for providing cover during periods of holiday, study or sick leave.

BDS degree Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practice.
