Job summary

The Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department incorporating Medical Electronics and Medical Engineering sits within the Estates Directorate. We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to work as a Senior Medical Engineer

Medical Engineering is primarily concerned with providing maintenance to a wide range of highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment both within the Trust and in other Trusts by arrangement. Such equipment embraces electrical, electronic, and mechanical and software based technologies requiring both broad and specialist knowledge.

The post holder will provide administrative and technical support generally to department and end user staff

The quality of service and response is crucial, the post holder will communicate effectively with clinical staff, suppliers, manufacturers, contracts and procurement staff regarding maintenance of medical equipment acting as a first contact for advice.

This role is of vital importance and will require the individual to be proactive and highly organised individual who continually strives for service improvements.

You will provide outstanding customer service to our service users, taking a 'can do' approach to your duties. You will need to demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

? Manage the site based delivery of medical equipment maintenance, repairs and training on medical devices throughout the Trust

? Organise and participate in a programme of clinical area visits, which provides assurance to the Trust and its patients that the Trust is meeting the expectations set in CQC standards.

? Contribute to the operation and development of the EME and Clinical departments on a Trust wide level on matters relating to medical equipment management and quality standards.

? Plan, deliver and record service and end user training and review technical, user and operation manuals

? Undertakes maintenance, calibration, validation and repairs of specialist modality medical equipment and advise on equipment technical and functional aspects and end user issues.

Job description Job responsibilities

Act as a senior medical equipment specialist for the hospital sites, and undertake day to day operational responsibility for the delivery of safety and maintenance activity

Hold responsibility for the quality of the customer service experienced by the professional users, including clinicians, and all clinical professionals

Work within the financial targets set within the framework of Medical Equipment Management

Meet the agreed Key Performance Indicators

Conduct local investigations into the root causes of Clinical or Adverse Incidents

Hold responsibility for executing any recalls or safety enhancements issued either by the manufacturers or the national Central Alert System (CAS)

Provide technical expertise relating to medical devices and the environment in which they are used, for example, liaison with the MHRA, professional users and any other agency or interested party. This will also include judging when to seek expert advice from other specialists, such as the Health Protection Agency, Manual Handling and safety Consultants.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc/BEng in an appropriate Electronics Engineering subject or developed knowledge and experience in Electronics Engineering to NVQ5 level equivalence

Desirable

Member of an appropriate professional organisation Registered as a Clinical Technologist

Experience Essential

Evidence of post qualification medical equipment maintenance experience working in a relevant healthcare environment.

Desirable

Specialist equipment training on complex multi-parameter medical equipment

Knowledge and Experince Essential

Repair, preventative maintenance, safety testing & acceptance testing. Broad knowledge of medical device operation & management

Desirable

Specialised knowledge of medical applications of engineering
