Job summary
Harlequin Surgery is looking to recruit a motivated and compassionate Salaried GP to become part of our welcoming and supportive practice team.
Based in Shard End, Birmingham, we provide care to a varied local community and are committed to delivering safe, effective and patient-centred general practice. Our team includes experienced GPs, nursing staff and administrative colleagues who work closely together to support both patients and clinicians.
The role would suit a GP who is keen to work in a friendly primary care environment, with good clinical support, manageable home visiting commitments and the opportunity to contribute to the future development of the practice.
Newly qualified GPs, including doctors completing training in August 2026, are encouraged to apply.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the clinical team at Harlequin Surgery and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-focused general practice care.
The role will include:
Undertaking routine GP consultations, both face-to-face and remotely where appropriateAssessing, diagnosing and managing a broad range of acute and long-term conditionsProviding continuity of care for patients within the practice populationSupporting the management of chronic disease and preventative health workMaking appropriate referrals and working with local community and secondary care servicesPrescribing safely and in line with current guidance and practice policiesWorking closely with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, administrative staff and other members of the wider primary care teamContributing to clinical governance, quality improvement and service developmentAttending practice meetings, clinical discussions and educational sessions where requiredThere will also be opportunities to:

Job Responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for managing a varied clinical caseload and providing high-quality medical care to registered and temporary patients of Harlequin Surgery.
Main Purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will work as part of the clinical team to support the Practice Partners in delivering safe, effective and patient-centred primary care. The role will involve managing a broad range of presentations in general practice and contributing to the ongoing development of services for our local patient population.
The post-holder may also have the opportunity to develop or lead on areas of clinical interest, support long-term condition management, contribute to prescribing and quality improvement work, and participate in enhanced services, patient engagement and health promotion initiatives.

Clinical Responsibilities
In line with the agreed practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a range of general medical duties, which may include surgery consultations, telephone consultations, online queries, home visits where required, prescription management, referrals, correspondence and associated clinical administration.
The post-holder will be expected to:
Provide general medical services to patients presenting with a wide range of acute, chronic, undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.Make professional and autonomous clinical decisions in relation to patients presenting directly or referred by other members of the practice team.Assess patients healthcare needs and formulate appropriate management plans.Identify risk factors and early signs of illness through appropriate screening, assessment and clinical judgement.Work with patients to develop care plans in line with current clinical guidance and practice protocols.Provide appropriate health advice, counselling and education to support patients in managing their health and wellbeing.Refer patients to other healthcare professionals, community services or secondary care providers where clinically appropriate.Record clear, accurate and contemporaneous consultation notes in accordance with professional and practice standards.Support data collection, audit activity and quality improvement work where required.Issue acute and repeat prescriptions safely and appropriately, using electronic prescribing systems wherever possible.Prescribe in accordance with local guidance, the practice prescribing policy and evidence-based practice.Ensure that any private work undertaken, including medical reports, insurance forms and private letters, is appropriately recorded and accounted for in line with practice procedures.Undertake the usual duties and responsibilities expected of a GP working in a primary care setting.Other Practice Responsibilities
