About this role

Job summary

We welcome applications from any GP, including newly qualified GPs wishing to work between 4 sessions and 7 sessions per week

As a Bellbrooke GP we want to provide you with a protected and predictable workload that allows you to focus your time on patient care.

Appointments are 15 minutes long, with 21 appointments a day.

We support you with professional development including a structured 2-week induction programme, regular internal appraisal, help with training plans and guaranteed study leave and CPD time. We aim to provide the space to develop individual interests or involvement in teaching and future leadership or management roles.

And in terms of benefits, we are successful/profitable with foundations in place for longer term growth. We pay salaried GPs a competitive salary plus indemnity costs, utilising the BMA Model contract in our agreement with you. Annual leave allowance 6 weeks (pro rata). Study/CPD allowance. Typically own room within a modern air-conditioned building.

Main duties of the job

Providing high quality clinical care mainly in face-to-face appointments with some telephone appointments and home visit consultations where appropriate;

managing clinical administration created by your clinical role including referrals, lab reports;

participating in clinical meetings and quality improvement;

participating in safeguarding; supporting GP trainees and other learners in the practice;

acting as our duty doctor is optional but is encouraged and separately remunerated and typically enjoyed by our existing GPs.

About us

We are a busy, well respected, innovative and high achieving GP training practice in inner city Leeds, caring for a population of nearly 15000 patients in an area with high levels of deprivation and health need. CQC rating: Good

We have 12 GPs and an experienced team of nurses, nursing associates and HCAs. ACPs cover care homes and provide proactive care to housebound patients. As a training practice we host GP trainees and medical students.

Our premises in the centre of Harehills are modern purpose built with on-site parking.

We work as part of the BHR PCN with extensive support for patients in mental health, physiotherapy, womens health, coaching and lifestyle support and much more.

GPs within the practice have developed specialist interests in diabetes and womens health and provide LARC and joint injection clinics.

Job description Job responsibilities

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health Providing counselling and health education Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Fully qualified general practitioner Registered with the GMC with licence to practice in the UK Included on the NHS Performers register Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development

Experience Essential

Understanding of clinical governance, safeguarding and quality improvement Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Competent IT skills and ability to use electronic clinical systems Interest in improving health inequalities and working in an area of significant deprivation

Desirable

Experience of working with people in an area of deprivation Experience of working with a diverse and multicultural population and using interpreters Interest in leadership/management roles in the longer term Interest in developing a specialist interest that will benefit our patients Interest or experience in teaching, supervision or mentoring of trainees and students. Interest in men's health and men's health promotion
