Job summary
Main purpose of post: To dispense effectively for the registered population. Following recent staff retirement we are looking for reliable, hard working person, who has keen eye to detail and accuracy. Working in our friendly rural village GP surgery in the dispensary department.
Hours of work: 10 hours per week. (one day on a Tuesday)
plus adhoc additional hours
SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES:
The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
Assist in the preparation, dispensing of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and restocking of the dispensary.
We require someone to cover all day Tuesdays in the dispensary, preparing and dispensing medication, overseen by the G P Partners of the practice. The will be additional adhoc flexi hours for other cover
Main duties of the job
To pick, check and dispense medications to the GP Surgery Dispensing patients, using Emis Web and Dispense IT software. Computer Skills and Team player are important, with attention to detail and accuracy vital.
To order dispensary supplies at appropriate times from suppliers approved by the GPs.
To ensure that only necessary stock is ordered and stored appropriately. To stock shelves ensuring that they are kept clean and tidy at all times.
To assist in annual stock checks.
To ensure that out-of date stock is disposed of correctly following the Dispensary protocols.
Issuing stock items and label prepared prescriptions.
To have an understanding of the Drug Tariff and British National Formulary.
To complete all records accurately and legible in particular the storage and records for controlled drugs.
To follow, update and create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all areas of dispensary practice.
To participate in audits of service provision when requested.
To ensure that the department and equipment are kept clean and tidy at all times.

A dispensing practice with dedicated additional staff: Nurses, Health Care Assistant, Physician Associate, Pharmacist, Paramedic, Physiotherapy, Midwife, Mental Health clinicians and Social Prescriber. 7882 patients with over 4000 of those dispensing patients.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions
Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
Ensuring that medications are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions
Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook
Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as directed by the senior dispenser.
Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions.
Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries and support staff.
Using the computer to keep records up to date.
Checking with gps or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication.
Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions.
Ordering drugs using the modem link to the wholesalers.
Handling controlled drugs (and keeping register).
Handling prescription money.
Assisting when required to meet targets in relation to dispensing doctors scheme
Assisting in stock checks
Providing cover for annual leave/sickness.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in pharmaceutical dispensing Computer IT skills, however full training will be given.
