Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking General Medical Practitioner to join the First Coastal PCN in a new role that will be developed as it progresses. The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

At present, First Coastal PCN does not have Home Office sponsorship status. This means that we are currently unable to provide any assistance with visas and all applicants and employees must have indefinite right to work in the UK in order to qualify for the job roles we offer. This may change in the future due to ongoing work.

Main duties of the job

To undertake duties governed by the contract and Direct and Local Enhanced Services including-

A variety of duties including face to face surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

First Coastal PCN covers a population of approximately 84,000 patients, this is made up of seven practices, Marsico Medical Practice (Mablethorpe), Hawthorn Medical Practice (Skegness), Beacon Medical Practice (Skegness), Merton Lodge (Alford), Spilsby Surgery, Stickney Surgery and Old Leake Medical Practice. These practices work together to deliver care to the local population.

Clinical Responsibilities

To undertake duties governed by the contract and Direct and Local Enhanced Services including-

A variety of duties including face to face surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes

Administration - dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters, task, emails and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate

Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well as wider guidance such as that from NICE.

As this is a new and evolving role, this is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities, and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties that fall within the grade of the job, in discussion with their line manager.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable form to a variety of audiences -e.g. patients Good IT skills Able to obtain and analyse complex technical information Produce timely and informative reports Work effectively independently and as a team member Demonstrate accountability for delivering professional expertise and direct service provision Ability to work without direct supervision Committed to person-centred, non-discriminatory practice Forward thinking and innovative Able to maintain judgement under pressure Flexible approach to work Full driving license and use of car to travel around the PCN patch to deliver patient care.

Qualifications Essential

Full GMC registration. Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT) in GP Performers List registered The General Medical Practitioner must not be: a. Prohibited from performing any such service by regulation 24 of the National Health Service England Regulations 2013 - performers Lists b. Suspended from the list of medical practitioners maintained and published by NHS England in accordance with section 91 of the NHS Act 2006 or from the registers kept under section 2 of the Medical Act 1983; c. and or Subject to interim suspension under 41A of the Medical Act 1983.

Desirable

Experience of working in NHS General Practice. Keeping up with CPD and good knowledge of current guidelines. Understanding of QoF, Medicines Management and the general working of GP practices. Understanding of SystmOne. Excellent communicator and team player.
