Job summary

Are you an experienced and highly organised operational leader with a passion for delivering excellent patient services in primary care?

We are looking for a proactive and people-focused Deputy Practice Manager to join our outstanding-rated GP practice in the beautiful village of Combe Down, Bath. This is a key leadership role within our management team, with responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the practice, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred services.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior operational leadership role within a high-performing and supportive practice. Youll be part of a strong management team, with the opportunity to shape how services are delivered and make a real difference to both patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Practice Manager, you will take lead responsibility for the operational management of the practice, ensuring services run smoothly, efficiently, and deliver an excellent patient experience.

You will oversee our Care Navigation and Administration teams, and lead on rota management and patient access. You will ensure services are responsive, well-organised, and continuously improving, while supporting and developing front-line teams.

Working closely with and supporting the Practice Managerwho leads on strategy, finance, facilities, HR and complianceyou will focus on delivery, people management, and operational performance.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is passionate about leading teams and improving systems.

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours), between 07451830 with at least one late finish a week Based at Combe Down Surgery, with one day at Odd Down Surgery and potential for one working-from-home day after probation Salary: £18.00 £20.00 per hour, depending on experience Benefits: NHS pension, supportive team environment, opportunities for development

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

Lead the day-to-day running of the practice across both sites Ensure smooth delivery of reception, administration, and patient services Oversee appointment systems, rotas, and capacity planning Monitor and improve patient access, demand, and service delivery People Management

Line manage the Care Navigation and Administration Managers Provide day-to-day HR support, including absence management, staff support, and performance monitoring Support recruitment, induction, and training processes Foster a positive, supportive, and high-performing team culture Patient Services

Lead on patient access and service improvement initiatives Manage and respond to complaints and patient feedback, escalating where appropriate Support patient engagement, including PPG and Friends groups Systems & Process Improvement

Continuously review and improve operational systems and workflows Ensure effective use of clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne) Support implementation of new ways of working and service developments Deputising & Support

Deputise for the Practice Manager Support delivery of wider practice objectives and projects

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Experience working in primary care or a healthcare setting Strong operational management and organisational skills Proven experience in team leadership and people management Confident problem-solver with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Experience with clinical systems such as SystmOne (desirable)
