Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Paediatric Nurse with substantial Paediatric High Dependency experience to join the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. This exciting 12-month secondment opportunity, with the potential to become a permanent position, is a 0.6 WTE post. The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Level 7 Paediatric High Dependency Module, delivered in partnership with Edge Hill University across the North West and North Wales regions. The module runs three times per year and includes the delivery of specialist paediatric high dependency education and clinical skills training. The remaining 0.4 WTE (minimum 0.2 WTE) will be spent working clinically within a Paediatric Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 critical care environment to maintain specialist clinical expertise.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team, supporting the Module Leader and Programme Lead in the coordination, delivery and evaluation of the Level 7/PCCS Level 1 & 2 Paediatric High Dependency Module. Working in partnership with Edge Hill University and Alder Hey Academy, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality educational programmes for healthcare professionals working within paediatric critical care.
Key responsibilities include delivering teaching, facilitating clinical skills and simulation-based education, providing pastoral and tutorial support to students, and contributing to quality assurance and programme evaluation activities. The post holder will act as an expert clinical practitioner and role model, promoting evidence-based practice, professional standards and the ongoing development of paediatric critical care nursing.
The role also includes maintaining specialist clinical expertise through regular clinical practice, supporting the maintenance of accurate educational records, and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will assist in promoting the Paediatric High Dependency Module across the North West and North Wales regions and will liaise with external clinical educators and healthcare organisations to support programme engagement and development.

In partnership with the Paediatric Critical Care Education Programme Faculty, HEI provider, Alder Hey Academy, provide high quality educational programmes, where students are facilitated to learn about childrens critical care in order to achieve professional qualifications. In addition to promote and maintain standards of care in accordance with unit and Trust policies.
Assist the Module Leader and Programme Lead in the delivery of the academic Level 7 Paediatric High Dependency module programme and ensure the curriculum is aligned with the PCCS Level 1 & 2 educational standards.
To contribute to the development and facilitate in the delivery of the academic Level 7/PCCS Level 1&2 Paediatric High Dependency module. Contribute to the delivery and assessment of the Paediatric Critical Care Foundation Programme and activities within the Critical Care Education Programme, in regards to teaching, learning and assessment, research and development.
Act as an expert resource demonstrating high standards of care and clinical expertise in the delivery of the academic Level 7/PCCS Level 1&2 Paediatric High Dependency module.
Support students in the Paediatric Critical Care Level 1 and 2 areas clinically and maintain a high clinical profile working 40% within this specialist area.
To assist in the development and delivery of the Paediatric Critical Care in-situ simulation programme to promote patient safety, human factors and develop clinical and communication skills.
Aid in the development of skills, knowledge and competence of new and existing members of the HDU nursing team by working within the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team.
Through current research and evidenced based practice develop clinical practice and improve patient and families experience.

Currently working in Paediatric acute or Critical Care Essential
Experience working in Paediatric acute, high dependancy area Holds qualification in Paediatric High Dependency or equivalent Degree at honours level in a healthcare-related subject Paediatric Life Support provider

Willingness to undertake PGCert in Clinical Education
