Job summary
We are looking to expand our team of Bank Workers to support our mental health services in North Somerset - particularly the Safe Haven Crisis & Recovery Centre in Weston-Super-Mare.
Safe Haven provides a safe, welcoming, comfortable place for people in immediate acute emotional distress and for those seeking to prevent the onset of a crisis in North Somerset. The key priority for the service is to work with individuals to create plans and strategies for managing their mental health and wellbeing and preventing future crisis. The service is focused on supporting episodes of emotional distress and is not designed to be an ongoing support intervention.

You will:
Have experience working with people in distress or experiencing acute mental health difficulties. This could include voluntary work.Have compassion, empathy and a passion for supporting others.Be a strong communicator and active listener. Be good at building trust with the people you work with.Be keen to learn and develop your knowledge and skills.Have confidence working independently, while also able to escalate and seek advice when appropriate.Have good professional boundaries - and be able to work in-line with Policy and Procedure. For example, our Safeguarding Policy.Be IT-literate and able to record information on a computer system.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience working in mental health services in Second Step on an ad hoc basis.
We offer internal training and eLearning, on-site inductions, regular meetings and access to our externally provided Employee Assistance Programme.

Some Bank Workers move into permanent employment with us after working on our Bank. This can be a great pathway for those interested. Whether you are early-on in your career in the sector - or are simply looking to pick up shifts alongside another job, this is a great opportunity to build your experience and skills while supporting our services and those who use them.
Hours: You will be able to accept bank shifts which we advertise on an ad hoc basis. The number of shifts we advertise varies depending on our services needs, so we are unable to guarantee a certain number of available hours.
Our Safe Haven service opens 7 days a week, so advertised bank shifts could be on any day. Shifts are usually advertised for 17:45 to midnight.
Location: Our Safe Haven service is located in central Weston-Super-Mare at the For All Healthy Living Centre.
A successful applicant to this advert could additionally be offered work at other locations - such as Bridgwater, Wells, Bath or Swindon but must be interested in working at Safe Haven (Weston-super-Mare).
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of working with vulnerable people experiencing mental health difficulties - either in a paid or voluntary capacity
Desirable
Experience and understanding of working with people with multiple needs such as homelessness, mental health, alcohol, drug dependency Proven experience of mental health issues and/or services, either as a user, carer or supporter Experience of working in a multi disciplinary team setting
