Job summary

Camelford Medical Centre is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team for 2-4 sessions per week. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established rural practice serving the local community of Camelford and the surrounding areas of North Cornwall.

We are looking for a GP who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and who values continuity, teamwork and the traditional strengths of general practice. Applications are welcomed from both experienced GPs and those who have recently completed their training.

The successful candidate will join our experienced and dedicated team which includes a GP Partner, Managing Partner, two Salaried GPs and a skilled multidisciplinary support team, all working together to deliver safe, compassionate and effective care.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary medical services to our registered population of approximately 6,700 patients. The role includes undertaking face-to-face, telephone and online consultations; assessing, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions; reviewing clinical correspondence and investigation results; prescribing safely in accordance with current guidance; promoting preventative healthcare and continuity of care; maintaining accurate clinical records using EMIS; and working collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.

Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive primary care services to the patients of Camelford Medical Centre, delivering safe, effective and compassionate medical care in accordance with GMC standards, NHS contractual requirements and practice policies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for patients presenting with undifferentiated and established conditions.Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses across all age groups.Develop and implement appropriate treatment and management plans.Prescribe medication safely and cost-effectively in line with local and national guidance.Refer patients appropriately to secondary care and community services.Review pathology and diagnostic results, taking timely and appropriate action.Process clinical correspondence and undertake associated follow-up actions.Provide advice on health promotion, disease prevention and lifestyle modification.Undertake home visits when clinically appropriate and in accordance with practice protocols.Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legally compliant clinical records using the EMIS clinical system.Multidisciplinary Working

Work closely with GPs, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.Support colleagues by sharing knowledge and contributing to clinical discussions.Foster positive working relationships across the practice team.Quality, Governance and Professional Responsibilities

Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.Contribute to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other contractual requirements.Maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuing professional development.Participate fully in annual appraisal and GMC revalidation processes.Comply with all practice policies, safeguarding requirements, infection prevention standards and information governance procedures.Practice Development

Attend and contribute to relevant practice and clinical meetings.Support service improvement initiatives and the development of practice systems.Contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive practice culture.Pursue and develop any agreed areas of special clinical interest that enhance patient services.Other Duties

Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role of Salaried GP, as reasonably required by the Practice, following discussion and agreement.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working within UK General Practice, including management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Ability to undertake independent clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients across all age groups. Experience of managing workload safely and effectively within a primary care setting. Excellent consultation and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement. Competence in maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records. Commitment to providing patient-centred care and continuity of care.

Desirable

Previous experience as a Salaried GP within General Practice. Experience of using EMIS clinical systems. Experience of participating in Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) activities. Experience of teaching, mentoring or supervising healthcare professionals or students. Experience of leading or contributing to service development or quality improvement initiatives.

Evidence of leadership skills or an interest in future leadership development within primary care.

Qualifications Essential

Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise. Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List, or eligibility for inclusion prior to commencement of employment. MRCGP qualification (or equivalent experience recognised by the GMC/NHS England). Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and commitment to maintaining professional competence. Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.

Desirable

Additional postgraduate qualifications relevant to primary care. Certification or training in a specialist area of interest that would complement practice services.
