Job summary
Due to staff retirement, we have an exciting opportunity to join our highly experienced Dispensing Team here at Bewick Crescent Surgery. We have a vacancy for a Dispenser/ Medical Receptionist to work between our main site at Bewick Crescent Surgery and our Branch site at Heighington Village. This is a full-time position working 37 hours over 5 days.
The ideal candidate will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or above and have previous dispensary experience, or hold the Buttercups Dispensing qualification, however, for the right candidate, as a Practice, we would support you in your training
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would work as part of an excellent, experienced dispensary team, who remain adaptable and considerate to changes within General Practice and the NHS. They must also carry out Reception/Admin duties as part of the admin team.
The successful candidate would be responsible for dispensing medication to the entitled patient population in an accurate and timely manner.
A sensitive and empathetic approach alongside a flexible, cooperative, professional nature and the desire to put patient safety and quality of service at the forefront are essential characteristics that we will be looking for.
Previous experience working in a GP setting is an advantage however, not essential as full training will be provided.
About us
We are a large Practice in Newton Aycliffe with 13,500 patients. We have 5 GP Partners, 6 Salaried GP's, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 6 Practice Nurses and 5 Health Care Assistants.
We have a branch surgery at Heighington where we dispense to the eligible patients.
In addition there is a large admin team to support the clinical teams.
We are a training Practice where we invite trainee GP's and Nurse's to work with us in their training programme.

Job description Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors while dealing with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way, ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times.
To be responsible for the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with Practice policies and current legislation.
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. It will also be necessary to carry out other reception tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:Dispensing Duties:-
Dispense prescriptions to the entitled population in accordance with Practice policies and procedures, ensuring there are no discrepancies Support the Dispensary Team in ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements Cash handling Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and our Practice Policies Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the cold chain rule Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed within accordance to the practice policy Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to SOPs, NICE, CQC etc guidance Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order. Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions. Undertaking any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Dispensary Manager, Practice Manager or the Partners.
Reception Duties:-
Act as first point of contact for all patient enquiries having the ability to navigate patient care appropriately Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors
Resolve issues only delegating upwards when unable to solve
Ensure patients without appointments but who need urgent consultations are booked in a logical and nondisruptive manner
Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover ensuring compliance with the registration policy
Online patient registration ensure online patient registration is actioned with immediate effect and that the patient is able to use the online services
Ensure all visitors are booked in and out using the visitor book Inform the person being visited of the person arrival
Liaise with Doctors and Nursing staff as required
Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy
Book appointments and recalls
