Job summary
The Lead Elective Coordinator will support the operational delivery of elective Trauma & Orthopaedic (T&O) services across Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The post holder will play a key role in managing waiting lists, coordinating elective patient pathways, and ensuring delivery of Referral to Treatment (RTT) standards.
Working closely with operational managers, clinical teams, and administrative staff, the post holder will provide day-to-day coordination and supervision of elective services, ensuring efficient booking, scheduling, and pathway management.

- Manage and monitor RTT pathways to ensure compliance with national waiting time standards
- Actively manage elective waiting lists, identifying and escalating risks to breaches
- Coordinate patient bookings for outpatient appointments, diagnostics, and theatre procedures
- Validate patient pathways to ensure accuracy of data and compliance with RTT rules
- Ensure patients are scheduled in line with clinical priority and Trust policies

1. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor RTT pathways to ensure compliance with national waiting time standards
- Actively manage elective waiting lists, identifying and escalating risks to breaches
- Coordinate patient bookings for outpatient appointments, diagnostics, and theatre procedures
- Validate patient pathways to ensure accuracy of data and compliance with RTT rules
- Ensure patients are scheduled in line with clinical priority and Trust policies
2. Management and Leadership
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support to Elective Coordinators / Admissions staff
- Act as a first point of escalation for booking and pathway queries
- Support training and development of administrative team members
- Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and patient-focused service
3. Planning and Organisation
- Support delivery of elective access targets and performance standards
- Monitor clinic and theatre utilisation and highlight capacity gaps
- Work with managers to optimise booking processes and reduce delays
- Assist with data collection, reporting, and performance tracking.
4. Communications and Working Relationships
- Liaise with consultants, clinical teams, and operational managers regarding bookings and capacity
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding appointment scheduling and changes
- Work collaboratively across sites to ensure consistent service delivery
- Escalate issues such as capacity constraints, cancellations, or pathway risks

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential
Evidence of relevant training or development in NHS administration Strong organisational and prioritisation skills Experience of RTT validation, waiting list management, or booking systems Able to work under pressure in a busy environment Ability to analyse basic performance data and identify issues

Knowledge of RTT rules and elective care processes
