Job summary
We are looking for a part-time Healthcare Assistant to join our team working at Coed Y Glyn Surgery. Working under the supervision of the Nursing Team and strictly in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols, the health care assistant will assist the practice clinical team
Main duties of the job
ECG recording
Phlebotomy
Chaperoning duties
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs and nurses
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being , using practice templates appropriately for accurate data recording.
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
About us
We are a friendly, well-established practice with 7,300 patients across two sites. Main site is at Coed Y Glyn Sugery in Llangefni and the Branch site at Glan Menia Surgery in Llanerchymedd.
We have 6 GP's, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA and a well established admin tea.

Job description Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
Carry out BMI checks as directed
Act as a chaperone as required
Undertake venepuncture
When trained, administer flu vaccinations
Carry out ECGs as requested
Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

This may be amended following consultation with the post holder, to facilitate the development of the role, the practice and the individual. All personnel should be prepared to accept additional, or surrender existing duties, to enable the efficient running of the practice.

Working elsewhere in a similar role within health care without direct supervision

Experience of working in a GP Practice
Knowledge and skills Essential

Knowledge of EMIS clinical system although training will be provided
Qualifications Essential
4 x GCSE grade c and above Qualified in Phlebotomy
Desirable
NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care or level 3 Health Care
