Unit Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for a 36 bedded Critical Care Unit working as Unit Co-ordinator and Unit management responsibilities
Main duties of the job
The Unit Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will facilitate innovative and evidence-based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
The Unit Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.
The Unit Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborativeapproach to patient care. The Unit Sister/Charge Nurse will report directly to the Matron.
The Unit Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will have Unit managerial responsibilities.
There is a requirement to exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff and carers requiring tact and diplomacy. The post holder needs to ensure that all barriers to understanding are overcome by using differing strategies to meet individual need.
The postholder will demonstrate the skills for assessing and interpreting specialist acute and other patient conditions, initiating actions as appropriate. Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints and serious untoward incidents and other significant events, completing required root cause analysis on time and ensuring resulting action plans are implemented and evaluated.
Ensure appropriate systems are in place for the safe and timely admission and discharge of patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
NMC Registration Degree in Nursing or able to demonstrate academic ability at degree level Post-registration Critical Care Course Mentorship course or equivalent
Desirable
Masters Study Leadership qualification
Experience Essential
Minimum of 3 years post registration experience in Critical Care including 2 years leadership role Evidence of leadership experience
