We are looking for one part-time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our team working as part of memory assessment services within community Older People's Mental Health Services across Swansea Bay University Health Board. We provide assessment and, where indicated, early post diagnostic support for people living with dementia.

In this role, you will work with individuals who have a range of highly complex communication needs. Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the delivery of clinical input Supporting the delivery of advice and support for communication partners Creating and developing communication resources Supporting Speech and Language Therapists in specific task and finish activities as part of wider service development

Main duties of the job

You will provide direct clinical support, working closely with patients experiencing memory and language difficulties and their families under the direction and guidance of Speech and Language Therapists. The role involves visiting patients in their homes and/or in clinic settings. Duties include:

Supporting Speech and Language Therapists in the delivery and monitoring of patient-centred communication goals and therapy plans.

Contributing to the co-production of communication resources tailored to individual patient needs, using specialist IT software. A good working knowledge of IT is essential.

Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and, where appropriate, Third Sector organisations to ensure holistic support for patients.

Assisting in providing advice and contributing to communication partner awareness sessions and discussions.

Providing administrative support to SLTs, including the use of Excel, PowerPoint and databases.

Duties include (but are not limited to) registering patients on SLT IT systems, answering telephone queries, managing appointment bookings, completing electronic notes, contributing to weekly caseload discussions.

You will be required to be able to travel between the sites across Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot in a timely manner.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, but not essential.

Visits and contact with the Clinical Lead SLT to learn more about the role and the service are encouraged and warmly welcomed.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Completion of relevant diploma or equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience.

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.

Experience Essential

Working in a multidisciplinary/multi-agency setting demonstrating ability to work collaboratively and understand the roles of others.

Skills Essential

Excellent interpersonal /communication skills, including observation, listening and empathy and negotiation skills.

Desirable

Ability to speak Welsh Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions. Workload prioritisation skills

Personal Attributes Essential
