Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Workers to join our dedicated team on the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit, Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.
We are looking for reliable individuals who can provide high standards of care to our 22 frail elderly patients who are acutely unwell.
This is a rewarding role within a dynamic team, focusing on delivering high quality, person centred care whilst supporting safe and timely discharges in a very busy unit.
We provide all staff with an induction period, ongoing support and training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the provision of care to patients by providing a range of personal care duties as designated by the registered nurse.
These tasks will involve direct and indirect care for the benefits of the patient in accordance with agreed protocols.
You will be responsible for providing care for patients who require assistance with all activities of daily living including washing, dressing mobilising, feeding and pressure area care.
There will be the opportunity to undertake training in blood glucose, ECGs and blood pressure monitoring.
Successful candidate will also be expected to complete documentation to an acceptable standard and assist in keeping ward area clean and clutter free.
The applicants will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills along with the ability to use their own initiative.
Flexibility regarding shift patterns is essential.

This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements.
