South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) is recruiting Vehicle Maintenance Technicians to join our Banstead workshop team.
Working on a fleet of over 700 vehicles, including ambulances, rapid response vehicles, 4x4s and specialist support vehicles, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our frontline services remain operational and ready to respond across the South East.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician looking to broaden their skills through manufacturer and specialist training, including Mercedes, MAN, Fiat, Electric Vehicle (EV) systems and C1 licence training where required.
Working as part of a supportive and professional team, you'll use modern diagnostic equipment and industry-leading practices to maintain a fleet that is essential to delivering emergency and urgent care services to our communities.
Training and development You'll also receive specialist manufacturer training across our fleet, including MAN, Mercedes and Fiat, as well as training in electric vehicles (EV), air conditioning and other specialist systems, ensuring you stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry standards.
Main duties of the job
As a Vehicle Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a diverse fleet of emergency and support vehicles.
Your duties will include:
o Servicing, inspecting and repairing ambulances, rapid response vehicles, 4x4s and support vehicles
o Diagnosing faults using advanced diagnostic systems, including Mercedes Star, Fiat Witech and Autel
o Carrying out preventative maintenance and safety inspections to maximise vehicle availability
o Preparing vehicles for MOT testing (Class IV and VII)
o Undertaking repairs involving electrical systems, welding and fabrication, hydraulics, heating and air conditioning systems
o Maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records
o Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, Trust policies and manufacturer standards
o Supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment
The workshop operates seven days a week between 6am and 8pm. The role is based on a shift rota and includes weekend and bank holiday working, with enhancements paid for unsocial hours.

Person Specification
Skills & qualification Essential
Must be qualified in NVQ level 3 motor vehicle engineering or equivalent Holds knowledge of automotive 12v electrical systems
Desirable
Experience working in an emergency service environment Experience working in a vehicle fleet enviroment Experience with IT systems including using Word & Excel
Driving Essential
Hold a full UK driving licence with C1 catergory Hold no more than 3 penalty points on UK driving licence
