About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a senior paediatric audiologist with broad experience in working in a paediatric audiology setting. You will work in a team of audiologists in the RNENT paediatric audiology team and work alongside Multidisciplinary Teams when assessing patients and planning their management.

The role includes carrying out electrophysiological tests such as hearing assessments (VRA, play and routine audiometry), hearing aid fittings and reviews and undertaking APD and vestibular assessments.

Paediatric Audiology has undergone a lot of changes throughout the years, and we are looking for an individual who can be part of a team who is keen to improve service delivery.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing audiological testing for infants and children, fitting and reviewing paediatric hearing aids, and providing training to junior staff and students. Non-clinical duties will include contributing to service development and supporting accreditation processes.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications Essential

BSc / MSc (Audiology) or equivalent (This would include BAAT Parts 1 & 2 with ONC in MPPM) Registered with RCCP and/or HCPC

Experience Essential

Demonstrable Clinical Experience including behavioural audiometric assessments for paediatrics Excellent experience of paediatric hearing aid assessment, fitting and rehabilitation. Experience in testing for Psycho-social aspects of deafness and hearing loss Experience of conducting regular Audits and knowledge of research methodologies

Desirable

Experience in APD and vestibular assessments Experience of managing equipment

Skills and Abilities Essential

Ability to take histories and counsel these patients and parents regarding management options and prognosis for their hearing loss. Audiological objective and subjective assessment of infants, children and young adult with complex requirements Analysis of test results to establish most appropriate care plans. Implementation of care plans in conjunction with other professionals. Taking accurate aural impressions, fitting hearing aids and measuring their performance in situ with probe microphones. Ability to maintain concentration in order to obtain accurate results throughout busy clinics. Demonstrable computer skills Focus on quality / service improvement

Communication Essential

Ability to communicate effectively with profoundly deaf people including those who rely on sign language. Ability to deal regularly and appropriately with angry, frustrated or distressed individuals.

Personal and People Development Essential

Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team Ability to work without supervision and use initiative

Specific Requirements Essential

Ability to multitask, work calmly under pressure Good dexterity for managing clinical tasks such as inserting probe microphones for REMs.
