Job summary The General Assistant (Kitchen Assistant) Part Time supports the delivery of high-quality catering and hospitality services across Jewish Cares care homes, community centres, and campus environments. Working as part of a busy hospitality team, the postholder will assist with basic food preparation, food service, and the preparation of dining areas, while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and customer service. The role helps ensure residents, tenants, visitors, and colleagues receive a welcoming, safe, and positive dining experience. This is a part-time position offering flexible working patterns, including some weekend shifts, and is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a team and contributing to the wellbeing of older people through excellent service.
Main duties of the job We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic General Assistant (Kitchen Assistant) Part Time to join our Catering & Hospitality team. You will support food preparation, serve meals and beverages, maintain clean and hygienic kitchen and dining areas, and assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of hospitality services. The role requires good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be flexible, team-oriented, and committed to delivering excellent customer service. Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is desirable, and training will be provided.

Our multi-award-winning organisation is looking to recruit a Kitchen Assistant to join our Hospitality team. This role may include some weekend working.
The role of Kitchen Assistant will involve the delivery of Hospitality Services within our Campus, Care Homes, and Community Centres to excellent standards.
This post is working 12 hours per week Monday to Thursday from 12 noon to 3pm (3 hours per day).
What you will be doing You will have a key role ensuring we deliver an excellent service to our customers, creating an inviting and pleasant environment. Your core duties will involve:
Basic food preparation including vegetables, salads, and sandwiches Maintaining a clean, hygienic, and presentable environment Preparing and arranging food counters and dining areas, ready for service Serving hot & cold food and beverages Operating the till and cashing up when required
Who are we looking for? You will ideally have previous experience working within a busy kitchen environment, working both independently and within a team. You will need:
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to undertake this qualification) Great communication skills, confident speaking to a range of people Good literacy and numeracy skills Willing to undertake appropriate training (e.g., Supervision, NVQ Training)
