About this role

Job summary

The postholder will also play a pivotal role in strengthening the interface between Orthopaedics and Imaging services, with a particular focus on plain film and theatre imaging. This role will actively support and promote effective multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, ensuring that imaging services contribute optimally to patient pathways and clinical decision-making.

A key responsibility will be to support the delivery and maintenance of high standards of imaging practice, including image quality, consistency, and clinical relevance. Historically, Orthopaedic imaging has evolved to include auto-reporting with clinical evaluation documented directly into patient records. However, structured feedback on image quality and technical factors is not consistently communicated back to the Imaging Department.

The ideal candidate will be a dedicated projectional radiographer who strives to provide radiographic images of the highest quality. They will enjoy working with students and will actively share knowledge and skills with others

Main duties of the job

Coordinate daily radiology service provision across theatres and endoscopy based on demand and theatre schedules.

Allocate and prioritise radiology resources to ensure timely imaging for surgical procedures.

Attend, or ensure representation at, the daily trauma meeting and communicate outcomes to relevant radiology staff.

Maintain oversight of theatre activity and adapt plans dynamically in response to changes in workload.

Act as the primary point of contact between theatres, endoscopy and the radiology department via designated bleep systems.

Establish daily communication with theatre coordinators following trauma meetings to agree operational plans.

Provide clear, timely updates regarding radiographer availability, delays, or service constraints.

Facilitate efficient patient flow by ensuring imaging is delivered without unnecessary delay.

Monitor and respond to theatre demands, prioritising urgent and trauma cases appropriately.

Work collaboratively with theatre and radiology teams to optimise utilisation of imaging services.
