Job summary

The University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest Hospital Trusts in the country and treated over a million patients last year. It is based on three hospital sites and employs over 10,000 staff.UHL has one of the largest Imaging departments in the

NHS; a medical specialty that encapsulates a wide variety of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology practices capable of diagnosis and treatment of a large array of conditions.

The Imaging Services covers a wide variety of clinical departments; sub-specialties who focus on specific referring specialisms e.g. Musculoskeletal, Paediatric, Vascular, Neurology, Head and Neck, Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine, Accident and Emergency, Oncology, Genitourinary and General Surgery.

Each of these sub-specialties covers a wide range of imaging modalities from Fluoroscopy and Plain film Radiography to Ultrasound, CT, and MRI. We employ over 60 Consultant Radiologists, 30 junior Doctors, 190 Radiographers, 40 Sonographers, over 160 Clinical and admin support; and image over 1650 patients a day/600,000 a year. Diagnostic Imaging is currently undergoing great change, with Hospitals becoming more and more reliant on the use of digital imaging techniques.

Main duties of the job

BASE: Your primary base will be one of the 3 UHL sites , however travelbetween UHL's hospital sites maybe required. UHL Hopper bus provided for travel if required.

HOURS: 37.5 hrs

You will be responsible for coordinating the patient pathway from booking radiology appointments to receiving patients on reception. You will be a well organised, and self-motivated individual with good communication skills, who enjoys working as part of a team

You will co-ordinate and manage the reception, appointments service, incorporating the clerical, administrative and secretarial aspects associated with the complex procedures we offer.

Previous experience in a healthcare setting would be an advantage however not essential as full training will be provided, we encourage applications from all backgrounds.

To ensure that all patients, visitors and members of staff are received in a prompt, courteous and pleasant manner Liaising with professional colleagues to ensure suitable triaging of referrals in a timely and appropriate fashion Receive and open incoming post for your core service taking appropriate action as necessary. Ensuring effective and efficient completion of the appointment process for your core service. Ensuring systems are appropriately updated in a timely and accurate fashion to track the patient episode and specify location of imaging information. Be responsible for ensuring patient waiting times are consistent with those published and are in line with departmental service priorities. Highlight areas for improvement and action in agreement with Administration Team Leader, implement changes where appropriate. Housekeep Imaging reports to end the patient episode ensuring all reports are forwarded to relevant referrer

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications Essential

Educated to GCSE including grades A-C in Maths and English IT knowledge and experience of using multiple IT systems

Desirable

Experience in Microsoft Excel packages including Word & Excel

Previous clerical/admin experience The ability to interact with others and work in a team Experience in taking/making telephone calls in a busy office environment

Understanding of the Radiology systems (CRIS, PATIENT CENTRE) Familiar with medical terminology
