About this role

Job summary

As a GP in our practice, you will be responsible for providing primary medical services to the registered patients of the practice, ensuring the highest standards of care for all, undertaken in line with the relevant national primary care contractual regulations and guidelines. Provide care for both on-the day care for patients and pre-booked patients with long term conditions and be responsible for maintaining the smooth running of the practice.

Main duties of the job

Diagnosing and treating common illnesses and injuries. Conducting physical examinations and health assessments. Prescribing medications and monitoring their effectiveness. Providing preventive care, such as vaccinations and health screenings. Managing long-term conditions like diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure. Offering health advice on lifestyle, nutrition, smoking cessation, and exercise. Referring patients to specialists or hospitals when necessary. Interpreting test results and arranging further investigations. Maintaining accurate medical records.

Wish Park surgery is situated in West Hove a buzzing high street location with a list size of just over 11500. We have a multi-disciplinary team including GPs, Practice Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Paramedics and HCAs. Our patient demographics include a higher percentage of young families and working professionals compared to local and national averages, and income deprivation levels are also below local and national averages.

To provide comprehensive, high-quality primary healthcare services to patients of all ages, diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, promoting health and wellbeing, and coordinating patient care within the wider healthcare system.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties

Conduct face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations.

Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.

Perform physical examinations and clinical assessments.

Prescribe medications in accordance with local and national guidelines.

Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood tests and imaging.

Manage long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and COPD.

Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and lifestyle advice.

Refer patients to specialist services when appropriate.

Undertake home visits where necessary.

Patient Care

Deliver patient-centred care and maintain continuity of care.

Develop and review care plans in partnership with patients.

Support self-management of health conditions.

Provide counselling and health education.

Safeguard vulnerable adults and children.

Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.

Process referrals, prescriptions, test results, and medical reports.

Complete fit notes, insurance forms, and other medical documentation.

Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Team Working

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Liaise with nurses, pharmacists, social care professionals, and hospital specialists.

Support the training and supervision of medical students and trainees.

Attend practice meetings and contribute to service development.

Skills and Qualifications

Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent).

Full registration with the General Medical Council.

Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice or equivalent.

Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications Essential

General Practitioner (GP) Person Specification Essential Qualifications Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent). Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). Inclusion on the GMC GP Register or eligibility for inclusion. Licence to practise in the UK. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Essential Experience

Desirable

Experience of working in general practice or primary care settings. Competence in managing a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Experience in prescribing and medication management. Experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
