About this role

Job summary

We require a suitably qualified Sonographer to join the forward thinking teams in our busy Ultrasound department where role development is encouraged in line with service need. Candidates suitable for these roles will be qualified with proven experience in both general and obstetric ultrasound examinations.

Applicants must be a Registered Health Professional with an appropriate post graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound and evidence of relevant experience. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, be dynamic, kind and support management to meet the needs of our patients and deliver excellent care. A flexible approach to service delivery is required.

Main duties of the job

You must possess excellent communication skills, be tactful, diplomatic and able to work alone and as part of a team in our busy departments. In addition you may be involved in the supervision of student Radiographers.

Be responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans in line with departmental guidelines; Take an active role in teaching and practical training of student Sonographers and others in training; Participate in the audit and clinical governance programs with the department; To communicate with patients, their relatives, and others about the purpose of the examinations and the scan results (in line with departmental guidelines). To develop ones own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others, identifying any training needs to the Lead Sonographer; To plan and prioritise ones own workload and that of that area to ensure the efficient flow of work, keeping waiting times to a minimum whilst maintaining a high standard of service delivery The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge Essential

Degree or equivalent diploma Case Accredited post graduate certificate or diploma at masters level in Ultrasound HCPC, RCT or registration with relevant professional body eg:NMC, RCN, RCM Sound professional knowledge of imaging modalities (e.g. ANC/TV scanning, Non-obstetric scanning) Evidence of current CPD portfolio

Desirable

Highly specialist training in aspects of ultrasound Developed knowledge of a specialised ultrasound imaging e.g. Small parts or vascular

Experience Essential

Post registration professional experience in a diagnostic ultrasound imaging

Desirable

Experience of specialist ultrasound imaging techniques Experience with digital/PACS enabled ultrasound equipment.

Other Essential

Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner Flexible approach to needs of the service

Desirable

Willing to participate in out-of-hours working
