Norton Canes Practice offers an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. As a growing GP practice serving patients across Norton Canes, you will work alongside a well-established team that values collaboration and high-quality patient care
Main duties of the job
Healthcare Assistants support GPs and Practice Nurses by delivering a range of patient services, with a particular focus on in-house phlebotomy. Duties may include venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, recording height and weight, lifestyle advice, diabetes management etv. The role also plays a key part in maintaining high standards of infection control and ensuring the smooth running of clinical services within the practice.
About us
Our Practice consists of 1 GP Partner, 1 Practice Nurse, 4 Receptionists and 1 Practice Manager. We also have the benefit of a Social Prescriber, a First Contact Physiotherapist, Dietician, Mental Health Practitioner Team and Pharmacy Team.

Job description Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the nurses and general practitioners
2. Assistance at clinics ensuring patients care by chaperoning and assisting patients to dress and undress
3. Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure and blood sugar levels
4. The testing and result recording of clinical specimens
5. Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples
6. Follow agreed clinical protocols with referral to nurses or GPs as appropriate
7. The collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal
8. The ongoing cleaning of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use
9. Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment and consulting rooms
Administration
13. The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt
14. Receiving and making telephone calls to patients for various reasons and documenting accordingly
15. Providing information for patients as required
16. The inputting of information onto the practice clinical system
17. Use of the practice clinical system for patient searches for clinical and patient recall
General
18. To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationary and maintain an effective stock management system
19. Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, fridges, and cupboards
20. Any other reasonable duties which may be requested from time-to-time
