Job summary

Are you a pharmacist who is keen to make a meaningful difference to service provision, patient experience and outcomes in rheumatology in the West Integrated Health Community (IHC)?

We're looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking pharmacist to join the well-established and supportive rheumatology multidisciplinary team based in the Peter Maddison Rheumatology Centre in Llandudno General Hospital.

We will also welcome you as a member of our friendly and supportive pharmacy team in Ysbyty Gwynedd, and you will work with us to achieve our goal to deliver seamless, patient-centred pharmaceutical care that maximises the health and wellbeing of the people of North West Wales.

You will be supported in your credentialing journey and will be encouraged to further develop your clinical skills at advanced clinical practice level. Our established links with Welsh University will provide opportunities to get involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate pharmacy students.

Whether you are a pharmacist with previous rheumatology background or an experienced clinical pharmacist ready to step into a specialist clinical role we would love to hear from you.

Your job plan will focus on clinical practice in rheumatology on 2 days a week, which enables flexibility to tailor the remainder of your week around your previous clinical experience and service needs in Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. Part time working and/or a split post with your existing role can also be accommodated.

Main duties of the job

Work directly alongside Consultant Rheumatologists and specialist nurses, holding your own clinic caseload as an independent prescriber taking responsibility for the prescribing of DMARDs, biologics, and specialist medicines for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and other rheumatologically conditions.

Practise as an independent prescriber in outpatient clinics alongside Consultant Rheumatologists, delivering expert pharmaceutical care and contributing to medicines optimisation.

Lead on safe, cost-effective prescribing across the specialty, including monitoring drug usage, expenditure, and biosimilar switching.

Developing and implementing prescribing guidelines, policies, and protocols for the department.

Representing pharmacy at Rheumatology MDT and governance meetings, and contributing to regional and national specialty networks.

Acting as a clinical role model supporting, mentoring, and educating undergraduate pharmacy students, trainee pharmacists, rotational pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.

Driving service development and innovation, with the opportunity to participate in research/ audit and share learning through publication and presentation at conferences.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and /or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications Essential

MPharm degree or equivalent Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Post Graduate MSc/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience and/or qualifications Non-medical prescribing qualification - or working towards

Desirable

Membership of relevant professional association Accredited or eligible to be accredited as a Higher Education Institute Clinical Pharmacy diploma/MSc tutor Training qualification Leadership and/or management qualification

Experience Essential

Must be able to demonstrate suitable level of experience working in the managed sector and/or community pharmacy

Desirable

Experience in relevant clinical area
