About this role

Job summary

Whist this is a new post in the Trust working across the Acute Oncology and Palliative Care Teams - we welcome applicants from a wide range of related specialities, such as General Medicine, Geriatrics, Oncology and Palliative Medicine. We recognise the need for applicants to be able to assess patients as they present across our hospitals in Emergency Departments and to be able to support the Acute Oncology and Palliative Care services. Applicants will be working with Consultants in Palliative Medicine and providing out of hours cover across East Kent.

The Cancer, Haematology and Haemophilia Care Group consists of a variety of teams including Acute Oncology, Supportive and Palliative Care, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Haematology, Research Teams, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Teams to support both inpatient and outpatient pathways across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

These are new posts at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. The post holders will be part of the Palliative Medicine Consultant Team but will act as Consultants responsible for the Acute Oncology and CUP Service for the Trust working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, including Acute Oncology Lead Practitioners and Acute Oncology Nursing Team.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training Essential

Basic Medical Qualification e.g. MBBS MRCP of MRCGP or other Oncology Specialist Training GMC Registration UK CCT in a relevant Speciality ie Oncology/ Palliative Medicine /Geriatrics or be within 6 months of CCT at application

Desirable

Diploma or MSC in Oncology MA in Ethics MD/PhD in a related area Teaching Qualification

Skills and experience Essential

Oncology/Palliative Care experience Senior level Multidisciplinary team working Teaching experience Time Management and prioritisation Ability to take full responsibility for clinical care for patients at consultant level

Desirable

Leadership experience Experience in research projects Experience in supervision of Medical colleagues

Clinical governance Essential

Audit and Research experience Knowledge of Clinical Governance issue

Desirable

Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
