Main duties of the job The job of a Sous Chef at Avery Healthcare involves supporting the head chef in leading a culinary team that provides nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals for residents. This role includes preparing modified diets in accordance with IDDSI guidance, supervising culinary staff, and ensuring food meets hygiene standards. The Sous Chef is responsible for training unqualified staff on simple food preparation tasks and ensuring all culinary team members understand the Avery Food safety management system. To be successful, candidates should embody values such as caring, support, honesty, respect, and accountability. Required qualifications include relevant catering qualifications like City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ, and a minimum of one year of catering experience. Candidates must be adaptive, flexible, and able to manage various responsibilities at short notice. Additional requirements include proof of eligibility to work in the UK and a DBS Disclosure check, provided by Avery Healthcare.

Your focus asSous Chefwill be tosupportthe head chef in leading a culinary team that provides a nutritionally balanced, comprehensive,and high-quality culinary service, which contributes to the overall well-being of the residents and is achieved withinbudget.
Other responsibilitieswillinclude:
Preparing modified diets that look appealing and are well-balanced and in accordance with IDDSI guidance. Supervising and directing the work of culinary staff, as directed by the Head Chef, providing instruction and demonstration to unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities. Understandingthe principles of safe food handling to ensure that all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen meets the highest hygiene standards. Supporting all culinary team members in fully understanding the Avery Food safety management system.
