About this role

Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and passionate Specialist Infant Feeding Practitioner to make a real difference within Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR). Working in close partnership with Health Visiting teams and Family Hubs, you will lead and inspire a dedicated team to deliver the infant feeding ambitions of HMR's Start for Life programme, supporting families to give every child the best possible start.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver the infant feeding programme in line with the expectations of the Family Hubs and the Start for Life programme. They will lead an infant feeding team to support multi-agency partners and settings in becoming "Baby Friendly" spaces, in line with UNICEF guidance, including undertaking regular audits. The role will work towards achieving Baby Friendly Level 3 accreditation across all Family Hubs within the borough. They will also develop a co-produced infant feeding peer support network to complement and enhance the dedicated team, and establish an equipment loan scheme across all neighbourhoods, ensuring access to high-quality, relevant resources supported by effective communications.

In addition, the post holder will deliver specialist clinics and drop-in sessions for mothers experiencing a range of complex feeding issues, including those with diabetes, breast implants, or babies with tongue tie. They will align infant feeding online resources with the Our Rochdale website and Essential Parenting platform to ensure families can easily access consistent support and information in one place. The post holder will also undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as requested by senior staff.

Person Specification

Qualification Essential

Registered Specialist Community Health Public Nurse (SCPHN) or Midwife on Part 1 of the NMC register UNICEF BFI training certificate Teaching and assessing qualification/experience

Desirable

IBCLC or equivalent qualification

Knowledge, skills, training and experience Essential

Evidence of leadership skills Evidence of post-registration development relevant to the post management experience Experience of being involved in infant feeding initiatives and practice developments Full understanding of UNICEF baby friendly initiative Substantial practical experience of supporting mothers with infant feeding issues and providing specialist advice and packages of care Ability to demonstrate a knowledge of community development approached to support breastfeeding including volunteer programmes Ability to travel to different geographical locations across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
