We are looking for a Senior HR Adviser to join our HR team and help deliver a high-quality, proactive and people-focused HR service across the organisation.

Working closely with the Head of HR, you will provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of HR matters, support managers with employee relations casework, and contribute to the continuous improvement of HR policies, processes and people initiatives. The role covers the full employee lifecycle and also includes involvement in volunteering, staff training and development coordination, equality, diversity and inclusion, and wider HR projects.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Senior HR Adviser will play a key role in delivering a high quality, proactive HR service across the organisation. This is a broad generalist role with both operational and strategic responsibilities, covering the full employee lifecycle as well as volunteering, staff training and development coordination, equality, diversity and inclusion, and wider people initiatives.

Reporting to the Head of HR, the postholder will support the day to day operation of the HR function, provide expert advice and guidance to managers, and help shape people initiatives that align with employment legislation, best practice, and the organisations values. The role also contributes to the development and continuous improvement of HR policies, processes and people strategies to support the organisations values as a hospice charity.

HR Advisory & Employee Relations

Provide clear, consistent, and legally compliant advice to managers, coaching them to build confidence in handling people management issues.

Liaise with Occupational Health providers and other relevant stakeholders to support effective case management and employee wellbeing.

Provide high-quality, solution focused HR advice and guidance to managers and staff on a wide range of employee relations matters.

Support and manage employee relations casework, ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes.

Recruitment & Employee Lifecycle

Partner with recruiting managers to deliver end to end recruitment activity, ensuring fair, inclusive, and values based recruitment practices.

Coordinate recruitment, onboarding and induction processes to support a positive candidate and employee experience.

Promote equality, diversity and inclusion through HR practice, advice, recruitment and employee development processes.

Attend and represent the organisation at external recruitment events and initiatives as required.

HR Systems and Data Management

Use HR data, trends and insight to support reporting, workforce planning and continuous improvement.

Produce HR reports and management information as required, supporting workforce planning and informed decision making.

Promote data accuracy and consistency across HR records and processes.

Payroll

Supervise the payroll function in the absence of the HR Adviser - Systems & Payroll and work closely with the payroll & systems Co-ordinator co-or, ensuring payroll changes are accurate and authorised.

Review and authorise payroll outputs when required, working closely with finance and payroll colleagues.

Team Leadership and Delegation

Support the day to day management of the HR team, providing guidance and direction to HR colleagues.

Delegate work appropriately, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.

Act as a deputy for the Head of HR as required, supporting continuity of service.

HR Policy, Processes & Compliance

Maintain, review, and update HR policies, procedures, templates, and guidance to ensure compliance with employment law and best practice.

Manage and update HR content on SharePoint and other platforms to ensure accessibility and consistency.

Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion through policy and practice.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Proven experience working as an HR Adviser or HR Generalist or in a similar advisory level HR role Sound, up to date knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations best practice Demonstrable experience managing a varied employee relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and sickness absence cases Experience of providing practical, solution focused HR advice and coaching to managers Experience of supporting end to end recruitment and onboarding processes Experience of reviewing, developing and implementing HR policies and procedures Experience of working with HR systems and producing accurate management information and HR reports Experience of payroll oversight or working closely with payroll and finance colleagues Experience of handling confidential and sensitive information in line with GDPR and data protection requirements

Qualifications Essential

CIPD Level 5 qualification, or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent experience Commitment to ongoing professional development in HR practice and employment law
