Job SummaryYou will serve as an Equipment Specialist in the Engineering Support Branch managing Armstrong Flight Research Center's Metrology and Calibration Program, serving as the Center's expert for selecting and applying electrical, electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and flow measurement devices. Providing technical leadership, ensuring compliance with standards, supporting calibration operations, and advising the Branch Chief on metrology program needs.
QualificationsSpecialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Supporting the Metrology & Calibration (METCAL) Program by carrying out technical calibration, documentation, and compliance activities. Assisting with the development and implementation of metrology procedures; maintaining calibration records; ensuring equipment traceability to national/international standards; and supporting internal audits by collecting data, identifying discrepancies, and recommending corrective actions. Supporting metrology operations by coordinating calibration activities and assisting technicians, contractors, and laboratory personnel to ensure efficient workflow and accurate completion of metrology tasks. Helping maintain the readiness of Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE). Major DutiesSupports the Metrology and Calibration Program by assisting in the development, coordination, administration, and evaluation of metrology measurement assurance activities across center program areas under the guidance of senior metrology personnel.Serves as a working level liaison for all internal and external audits, preparing documentation, accompanying auditors, responding to corrective actions, and helping ensure center-wide compliance with metrology related standards and procedures.Provides advanced technical support to leadership, centers, and external agencies on metrology principles, calibration policy, measurement assurance practices, uncertainty analysis methods, sensor selection, and application of emerging technologies.Coordinates training and activities for organizational metrology representatives, conducts group meetings and program briefings, shares updates, addresses metrology issues, and ensures representatives understand agency policy requirements.Monitors metrology contractor performance, reviews deliverables for technical adequacy, and verifies compliance with program requirements and specifications.Interprets technical requirements and coordinates with Contracting Officers and Contracting Officer's Technical Representative to support effective contract execution and issue resolution.
