QualificationsApplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time in Grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet the time in grade requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. Basic Education Requirements: Master's Degree: Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. GS-13: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level; or its non-Federal equivalent that included experience coordinating and analyzing data for the development of policies to implement programs to enhance safety and agricultural science; collaborate with various stakeholders to gather information on the performance of food and agriculture programs; and assist in conducting program evaluations to improve the administration and efficacy of food and safety and agricultural science. GS-14: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level; or its non-Federal equivalent that included experience coordinating and analyzing data for the development of policies to implement programs to enhance safety and agricultural science; collaborate with various stakeholders to gather information on the performance of food and agriculture programs; and assist in conducting program evaluations to improve the administration and efficacy of food and safety and agricultural science. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Major DutiesPromote a shared agenda in area of responsibility; supports and advocates the advancement and use of science; and markets/communicates the successes of NIFA and its partners.Participate in responding to short-term and long-term issues and opportunities that are compatible with the mission of NIFA by developing background information and making recommendations.Provide input into conceiving, formulating, and executing programs, policies, technical standards, and guidelines related to area of responsibility.Conceive, formulate and execute programs. Disseminates and explains information, policy and guidelines.Maintain existing programs, suggests modifications and possible solutions to obstacles, and works to implement all program aspectParticipate in the evaluation of program results and the initiation of appropriate action to assure proper emphasis is given to critical and far reaching programs.Suggest the need for and prepares technical and administrative guides, standards, and criteria to accomplish national program.RequirementsYou must be a US Citizen or US National.
