QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Conducting pulmonary function tests using computerized equipment; monitoring medication administered such as inhalers or nebulizer during pulmonary function tests; maintaining equipment utilized for testing of arterial blood gas analysis, CO oximetry, and respiratory measurements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesPrepare, calibrates and/or operates technical and/or computerized equipment utilized in advanced cardiopulmonary physiology testing in both adults and infantsInterpret physicians' orders for pulmonary function testing, adapting established procedures to meet the special requirements of the patient.Provide technical assistance in assessing the cardiopulmonary status of patients involved in rehabilitation and transplant programsMonitor and documents level of radiation exposure during fluoroscopy procedures.Record and calculates results of test data using computers, calculators and/or various overlays and nomograms used in measuring pulmonary physiology studies.Perform airway anesthesia, ensuring optimum patient comfort through knowledge of appropriate use of topical anesthetics under the guidance of pulmonary physicians.Apply aseptic and sterile techniques to avoid infection of patients and/or contamination of equipment.Troubleshoots and/or makes repairs on equipment used for blood gas analysis, pulmonary function, fiber optic bronchoscopy, and exercise physiology testing.Provide training on laboratory pulmonary function techniques for assigned physicians, nurses and other paramedical personnel.
