QualificationsGS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have: at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level; or four years of education above the high school level; or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below. Specialized experience is defined as performing clerical and administrative support duties such as performing the entry of data into the electronic file and case tracking systems; assisting with conducting periodic file reviews; locating and correcting data entry errors; filing completed documents in appropriate locations; responding to inquiries; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; maintaining filing systems. Combining Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. GS-06: To be eligible at the GS-06 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing inputting, updating and extracting of legal data; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; reviews reports to identify recurring errors; identifies errors of documents or case records; assists with conducting periodic case certification reviews; and produces reports from information within the database; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials reviewing. GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Specialized experience is defined as using advanced automation techniques to extract legal data from automated databases; utilizing legal support processes and court proceedings to review reports and identifying recurring errors; conducting periodic case certification reviews; and producing complex reports and documents from different software types such as tables, charts and graphs. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. Major DutiesIf selected for this position, you will be responsible for performing docketing and complex legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems for the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois. Typical duties include: Serving as a source of procedural and systemic information on all aspects of docketing functions; Functioning as the docketing system subject matter expert and training other employees on related processes and procedures; Maintaining and extracting data from automated docketing databases and systems; Inputting information into databases and systems and updating records; Developing and maintaining automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure; Receiving and reviewing incoming case files and documents; analyzing content to determine the nature of the office's interest and cause of action. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
