QualificationsGS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal Service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized Experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: Operating litigation support hardware or software (i.e. Everlaw, OnCue, etc.) and performing a variety of routine/non-routine automated support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence, and data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings, cataloging, organizing, and reviewing and discovery; assisting attorneys, and coordinating with other offices or agencies to complete discovery and with trial preparation and presentation, to include items such as subpoenas, trial exhibits, information requests, pleadings, and correspondence; preparation of trial presentations including a wide range of information system analysis; development, and installation in support of litigation support activities for assigned cases; assisting and/or training attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information; and preparing computerized trial presentation programs. Any programming experience is considered an asset. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (e.g., Information Technology, Law, Criminal Justice); OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., Information Technology, Law, Criminal Justice. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as working in a legal environment providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities; organizing and managing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through scanning, indexing and controlling documents into a database; analyzing litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs; recommending software applications to effectively present complex evidence; and diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems. Any programming experience is considered an asset. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. Major DutiesIf selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for enforcing Federal Criminal and Civil laws that protect life, liberty and the property of citizens. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Typical work assignments will include: Providing assistance to Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) on legal automation to facilitate trial preparation and trial presentations; Researching, analyzing legal precedents, and preparing summaries to assist the AUSA in preparation for grand jury or trial; Providing assistance to the litigation team in the courtroom with equipment, set up, and other legal assistance during trials/hearings; Assisting and/or training attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information; Providing technical support and assistance in complying with discovery requirements; using various software applications to organize, analyze and present case materials; Utilizing presentation software such as Everlaw, Concordance, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, CaseMap; TimeMap; NoteMap, OnCue, and similar software; Performing specialized legal research, preparing a variety of trial related documents, maintaining automated records for assigned cases, and coordinating trial presentations by organizing trial exhibits; Performing various video creation and editing tasks with software such as Adobe Premier and Camtasia for presentation in trial. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
