About this role
What if you could drive commercial outcomes on Australia's most complex projects The Opportunity
We are seeking a Commercial Manager to support strong commercial outcomes across bids and projects through disciplined contract management, early risk identification and effective day-to-day commercial control. This is a hands-on commercial role partnering closely with Project Managers and Project Directors to support informed delivery decisions, maintain post-award discipline and ensure commercial risks are identified and escalated at the right time.
What you'll be accountable for
As a Commercial Manager, you will help embed commercial frameworks and good practice across the project lifecycle — from bid and pursuit activity through to delivery, close-out and lessons learned. You will:
• Implement commercial and contract management practices from the bid stage through project delivery and close-out. • Identify commercial, contractual and margin risks at the project level, escalating emerging issues early. • Support bid and pursuit teams with commercial inputs, contract reviews and risk identification. • Help ensure scope definition, pricing assumptions and risk positions are clearly documented and understood. • Maintain fit-for-purpose contract management arrangements across assigned projects. • Prepare and manage contractual notices, commercial correspondence and records in line with governance requirements. • Manage variations, extensions of time and low-to-medium complexity claims, escalating where value, risk or complexity increases. • Monitor project commercial performance, flagging margin erosion, scope drift or delivery misalignment promptly. • Act as a trusted commercial partner to Project Managers, helping embed commercial discipline and consistent standards across projects. • Work collaboratively with Finance, Legal, Risk and senior commercial leaders to support integrated outcomes.
What you'll bring
You are a pragmatic, organised and detail-focused commercial professional who is comfortable working in delivery-focused environments and under time pressure. You will bring:
• Solid experience in commercial, contracts or project management, ideally within professional services or project-based environments. • Working knowledge of contract forms commonly used in consulting and engineering projects. • Experience supporting variations, claims and contractual processes under guidance. • Sound commercial judgement, including the ability to recognise when issues need to be escalated. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain commercial issues to delivery teams in practical terms. • A collaborative working style and the confidence to seek guidance when matters exceed delegated authority.
