The Master of Nursing Science, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is a three-year part-time program at University of Eswatini that was started in 2017 with the assistance of Peace Corps Volunteers. The volunteers were involved in shaping the curricula and teaching FNP courses. Students are enrolled in the FNP program in cohorts at varying stages of progress. Courses in the FNP program are taught by PhD-prepared faculty in the Faculty of Health Sciences, yet clinical courses must be co-taught by a qualified FNP instructor to meet international standards for advanced practice nursing education. Currently the PhD faculty that teach these cohorts do not have FNP qualifications, thus collaboration with the Peace Corps is essential to continue the program. The university is seeking the support of one Virtual Service Pilot Participant (VSPP) with FNP experience to help support teaching and learning activities for the family nurse practitioners. Specifically, the VSPP will support the following courses: family nurse practice of the child and adolescent and FNP internship. The Care of the Child and Adolescent courses focus on theory and practical elements of FNP and the VSP will have the opportunity to teach and share clinical pearls with the students. The FNP internship offers students an opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in a clinical setting. The internship involves the application of advanced nursing practice concepts and skills in a supervised clinical setting such as a hospital or doctor-led clinic. The VSPP will support lecturers by reviewing subjective, objective, assessment, and plan notes, supporting reflection and grading case presentations. The organization has previously collaborated with the Peace Corps. They understand that the role of a VSPP is very different than a Peace Corps Volunteer or Peace Corps Response Volunteer.
