Transportation Attendant
Summary: Assists disabled and impaired students getting on and off bus or in and out of a taxi or other automotive vehicle including lifting, folding, unfolding, positioning, and securing wheelchairs and other restraint devices; maintains safe conditions during operation.
Qualifications: Required
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the seventh grade. • Must have, or be able to obtain, certification in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of an automated external defibrillator [22.1-178]. • Successful completion of the FCPS transportation attendant training program. • Must complete the Virginia Board of Education training program on autism spectrum disorders [8VAC20-70-350]. • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with students and drivers in English. • Concern for the well-being of, and desire to assist general education students and/or students with disabilities. • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers, students, and families. • Sufficient strength and agility to move, lift, and secure students and equipment and assist students with entering and exiting bus, automobile, and/or taxi in regular and emergency situations. • Possession of the oral and written communication skills required to perform the assigned tasks. • Regular attendance, punctuality in reporting to work, and timely submission of attendance and leave requests. • Proficiency in the use of technology. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
