Finance Assistant
Summary: Performs a variety of responsible and paraprofessional accounting and finance duties required to maintain the complex financial records of the assigned organization.
Qualifications: Required
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by coursework in finance or accounting. • Two (2) years of experience in office and accounting, some at a level requiring independent judgment. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
• Knowledge of general, paraprofessional accounting practices, business English, and modern office practices. • Ability to reconcile financial accounting data and to spot and correct arithmetic or posting errors. • Ability to operate a computer and related equipment to process, develop, analyze, and create data.
Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Performs a full range of finance assistant tasks in a central department or office. • May work in mainframe and PC-based financial systems and applications. • Classifies and verifies a variety of financial documents processed in the assigned office to ensure correctness and completeness of the information and prepares control sheets, as required. • Balances and reconciles accounts, may transcribe to the general ledger, and traces discrepancies in case of imbalance. • Participates in the preparation of financial statements, some of which may require development or securing of supportive documentation. • May work with schools, banks, outside vendors, employees, and community organizations. • Compiles financial data, as requested or required. • Utilizes computer and related equipment to carry out responsibilities. • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
