About this role

The Ministry of Education in Guyana has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Regional Literacy Specialists. The ministry's Education Strategic Plan includes as a key activity for lifelong learning to develop community-based literacy programs. The program to be developed should be self-directed, with individuals working at their own pace; with minimal support from face-to-face interactions with a teacher/instructor. The PCRVs will work at the Regional Departments to conduct needs assessments which will involve site visits to various schools in the regions. The PCRVs will also co-deliver the national community-based reading program and training sessions on the literacy program, and they will collaborate with the Regional Literacy Coordinators to further develop the literacy skills of teachers.
