A volcanic eruption in 2021 and the COVID-19 pandemic caused learning losses among students. To address these losses the Ministry of Education embarked on an Education Recovery Program to equip teachers and school administrators with the skills and knowledge to improve the teaching of math. After a previous Peace Corps Response Volunteer supported after-school math tutoring, the school reported that 32% of struggling students showed an improvement in their performance.

As Math Support Teacher Trainer, you will collaborate with education officers, school principals, and teachers to strengthen staff capacity. Through your daily interactions, you will also enhance intercultural understanding between the local people and Americans.

Assist Ministry of Education to develop professional learning communities for primary school teachers.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as after-school sports and clubs.

Training: After 3-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to a community where you will collaborate with K-8 schools. You will work with the partner and your community to assess the local needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Eastern Caribbean will equip you with Creole language resources and you may work with a local tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.

Job Highlights: Share your skills to strengthen math education in K-8 classrooms. Learn unique expressions in Caribbean English through your interaction with colleagues and community members. Experience the wide variety of foods and cultural activities on these Caribbean islands.
