About this role

Tourism Marketing Specialist

Project Description: Looking for a rewarding way to share your marketing skills and passion for travel? Moldova’s National Tourism Office is looking to learn strategic marketing practices and tools to drive tourist interest with your support.

Moldova’s National Tourism Office identified a critical need to develop a marketing strategy and more robust digital presence. Marketing has become a top priority for Moldova’s National Tourism Office because the country’s tourism sector has not fully recovered from a steep decline during the pandemic, when visitor numbers fell dramatically and revenues dropped by about one‑third. Although recent years show gradual improvement, occupancy rates and international visibility remain low, signaling the need for stronger promotion efforts. The team has historically relied on traditional, non-digital methods and lack specialized branding, content creation, and data-driven marketing skills, which limits their ability to compete in a modern tourism landscape. Strengthening their digital skills is especially important now, as the office’s website and social media platforms have only recently been relaunched.

As a Tourism Marketing Specialist, you will collaborate with the National Tourism Office’s marketing team to improve strategic promotion, digital presence, and community-based tourism initiatives. Together, you will strengthen the partner’s digital footprint and build international awareness of the country. Your collective efforts will result in increased tourist interest and contribute to the country’s long-term sustainable tourism growth.

Required Skills: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or hospitality and tourism. AND Three years of experience in tourism marketing and/or hospitality planning and project implementation.

Living Conditions: Volunteers live primarily in independent apartments but may live with a host family if indicated and discussed ahead of time. Housing is located near the work site, but Volunteers should be aware that rush-hour commutes can take up to an hour.

Activities: Conduct a marketing needs assessment and analyze current promotional activities. Develop a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy. Create or improve digital marketing campaigns, including social media, website content, and newsletters. Develop branding and storytelling guidelines for tourist destinations in Moldova. Organize and deliver training workshops for local tourism stakeholders. Establish monitoring and evaluation tools to track marketing performance. Provide recommendations for partnerships and international promotion opportunities

You may also work on additional projects that meet community interests and priorities, such as an English club.

Training: After a two-week orientation, you will move to the capital city where you will collaborate with the National Tourism Moldova office. You will work with the partner to assess their needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Moldova will equip you with basic Romanian language skills and you may work with a local tutor who can continue building language skills to help you connect with the community.

Job Highlights: Apply your marketing expertise to tell Moldova’s story and attract tourists to the “hidden gem” of Europe. Learn basic Romanian phrases and practice communicating with colleagues and community members. Gain a deeper understanding of Moldova’s rich culture in person.
