Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young learners? Cookridge Primary School is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Year 6 team. This is a wonderful opportunity to become part of a vibrant, supportive community where every member of staff is valued, encouraged, and empowered to grow. If you are looking for a role where your contribution truly matters and you can help shape the future for our children, we would love to hear from you.

About Cookridge Primary

At Cookridge, we believe every child is born with a natural curiosity and a unique spark for learning. Our school cherishes each pupil as an individual, celebrating their talents, interests, and the special role they play in our community. We are proud to welcome families from all backgrounds, working closely with parents and the wider community to ensure every child receives the very best start in life.

We are committed to nurturing resilient, respectful, and caring children who see learning as an exciting and integral part of life. Our school culture is rooted in happiness, pride, and a genuine sense of belonging. We place children at the heart of everything we do, creating a fun, active, and personalised learning environment where everyone is encouraged to aim high and support one another on their journey of discovery. At Cookridge, it is safe to make mistakes and grow together, knowing that support is always at hand.

As a Teaching Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting our pupils’ learning and wellbeing during this important stage of their primary education. Working in close partnership with our dedicated teachers and wider staff team, you will help create a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment where every child can thrive.

This role would be ideally suited to someone who is at the start of their teaching career (has QTS) and is keen to gain teaching experience before taking up a full-time teaching position. Alternatively, a teacher that no longer wants full teaching and planning responsibility but would still love the opportunity to positively impact pupils education and experiences would also be ideally suited.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver engaging and effective learning experiences for all pupils.

Provide tailored support to small groups and individual children, helping them to achieve their best and develop confidence in their abilities.

Assist with classroom organisation and management, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children feel safe and inspired to learn.

Deliver targeted interventions to support children’s progress, adapting your approach to meet individual needs and celebrate every success.

Occasional whole class teaching.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is warm, resilient, and open to new possibilities—a team player who is excited to support children on their learning journey and contribute to our caring school community.

A genuine passion for working with children and helping them reach their full potential.

An approachable, positive attitude and the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.

A good understanding of the primary curriculum, with strong skills in maths and English (minimum Grade C or Level 4/5).

Flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to learn and grow as part of a supportive team.
