Division: Group Technology Services (GTS) Role Summary We are looking for a Platform Engineer to contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Kubernetes platform on Azure (AKS), supporting service mesh technologies, platform automation, and cloud-native engineering practices. You will work in a highly regulated financial environment, helping deliver secure, reliable, and scalable platform services that support critical business applications. As part of a collaborative engineering team, you will work with senior engineers, developers, system administrators, and architects to implement platform capabilities, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, and support the adoption of modern cloud technologies across the organisation. We are looking for a Platform Engineer to contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Kubernetes platform on Azure (AKS), supporting service mesh technologies, platform automation, and cloud-native engineering practices. Key Responsibilities
• Build, configure, and support AKS platform components and related Azure services • Implement and maintain service mesh capabilities (Istio or similar) following established platform standards • Contribute to platform automation using Terraform, GitOps, and CI/CD practices • Support the implementation of networking, security, and governance controls • Troubleshoot platform and application integration issues in collaboration with development teams • Participate in platform upgrades, migrations, and continuous improvement initiatives • Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures • Share knowledge with team members and support onboarding activities • Participate in operational support and watch duty rotations Working Environment & Mindset
• Work within controlled and compliant change processes • Balance engineering best practices with practical business constraints • Collaborate effectively across development, operations, and architecture teams • Demonstrate curiosity, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn • Take ownership of assigned deliverables and contribute to team success Required Skills
• Strong experience with: • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) • Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting • Azure networking fundamentals • Helm • Git-based workflows • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) • Good understanding of: • Service Mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Kuma, etc.) • Network policies • TLS, certificates, and platform security concepts • GitOps practices (ArgoCD or similar) • CI/CD pipelines • Experience with: • Supporting and operating production platforms • Agile/Scrum delivery models • Working with developers to troubleshoot and improve platform services
