We are seeking to appoint a permanent post of Lecturer in Robot Learning
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering both fundamental knowledge and innovative engineering content, providing mentorship to students, and contributing to research initiatives. We are particularly interested in candidates who combine a strong academic background with practical hands-on industry experience
Individuals will have the opportunity to pursue their intellectual interests within a dynamic community of research-active staff in the world-renowned Bristol Robotics Laboratory, to engage with ongoing projects and contribute to scholarly activities such as publications and proposal development. If you have an established research portfolio or clear plans to develop one within the scope of Robot Learning, we encourage you to apply.
About you
We require candidates who have a broad set of skills, enabling them to teach in-depth knowledge of academic theory and/or practice in core concepts of Robotics and AI, and to guide students through concepts related to robotics, such as perception, task and motion planning, control and robot learning. Capability in applying systems engineering principles to robotics and digital twin applications is also welcome.
The successful applicant will have, or be near to the completion of, a Doctoral-level qualification in Robotics, AI, or a related discipline. If from a professional practice/industry background, a qualification equivalent to postgraduate degree level (or above) in a related discipline, together with professional/industry experience. A teaching qualification and experience of teaching in higher education are advantageous.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate continuous professional growth in relevant subject areas. A portfolio of research that relates to the University’s Transforming Futures Research Strategy 2020-2030, aligned to topics such as Harnessing Creativity and Technology and being in line with the University’s ethics, is essential.

This is a permanent post and is full-time working on a 100% contract.
This post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part-time.
This role is campus based with some opportunity for remote/home working.
