About the Role
As a Waste and Cleansing HGV/LGV Driver, you will be responsible for driving and maintaining Council vehicles up to HGV level and leading a small team to deliver a full range of waste, recycling and cleansing services across the city. The role involves working flexibly across frontline services, including street cleansing, refuse collection, recycling and supporting wider environmental and highways services such as winter maintenance. You will be accountable for the safe and efficient delivery of services, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, managing day-to-day operations of your crew and using in-cab systems and software to record service delivery and support a customer-focused, high-performing service
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
• Category C (HGV Class II) driving licence, a valid Driver CPC qualification and tachograph • Experience of working within waste, cleansing, environmental or similar frontline operational services, and delivering high standards of customer care • A good understanding of Health and Safety legislation, road safety requirements and the safe operation of vehicles and equipment, along with knowledge of Council services and environmental enforcement processes • Strong practical and operational skills, including the ability to lead and supervise a team, prioritise and allocate work, communicate effectively with colleagues and the public, use systems and digital devices to record work, and work flexibly in a physically demanding outdoor environment in all weather conditions
