Main duties of the job The role will be to support the operational and strategic aims of the Care Group, developing and managing a culture of change which drives efficiency, effectiveness and improved patient outcomes. The post holder will work in close liaison with the Care Group Manager, the Clinical Lead and Service Leads to consistently ensure the quality of patient care through efficiently and effectively managing the department. The post holder will have responsibility for an assigned portfolio as well as an overview of the Care Group, including management of identified staff and delegated financial resources. The postholder will lead on the Care Group's ongoing Estates and Capital Planning projects and other workstreams, aligned to their service portfolio, and will draw together operational estates and clinical teams, to ensure that the Care Group's Estates Strategy is enacted.

Job description Job responsibilities
a) Oversee specific aspects of the cancer pathways for all tumour sites based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and those patients referred to UHS for diagnosis or treatment, ensuring safe care and effective use of all resources.b) The post has direct line management responsibility for staff within the management structure within the Cancer Centre and assumes delegated responsibility for identified budgets.c) Lead the development of services within the Cancer Centre, in partnership with the Trust management team, in line with national recommendations and guidance.d) Lead on the development of the Cancer Centre strategy and overall strategic direction in line with national and regional directives, cost improvement and activity management programmese) The post holder will have a high degree of autonomy and will be expected to manage a demanding workload to deliver sustainable service improvement, and will deputise for the deputy COO on cancer-related discussions
Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience Essential
First degree or equivalent Evidence of post-qualification study/professional development to Masters level (post grad certificate/MBA/MSc) or equivalent general management experience. Leadership training Management training Experience of working competently in an acute healthcare in a clinical care group or equivalent setting in a senior operational delivery/management position. Demonstrable knowledge of National and Local NHS; including national service frameworks Evidence of advanced leadership qualities Evidence of presenting complex information to internal and external groups in an understandable way. Report writing skills and experience. Ability to analyse and interpret complex data, to facilitate operational delivery decisions to support key performance targets. Experience of successful delegated budget management and evidence of achieving financial and finite resource targets Operational management experience in a clinical care group for more than 2 years

Membership of professional body Experience of working in NHS A breadth of clinical experience across the specialist area Project management experience Evidence of successful leadership, management and engagement of clinical teams to introduce change
