Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 practitioner to join the Specialist Autism Team, a unique and continuously developing service which works closely with secondary mental health care services to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions for autistic individuals.

This post is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and innovative practitioner with a passion for delivering person-centred care, which is driven by the individuals whom we support.

We are looking for an exceptional Band 6 practitioner to join our caring and passionate team, who is keen to ensure the delivery of high quality specialist, bespoke services which are designed to meet individual need and preference.

The Specialist Autism Team adopts a multidisciplinary team approach to working which supports the evolutionary scope of the service. The MDT is made up of Occupational Therapists, Nurses (RMN & RLD), Speech and Language Therapists, Social Workers , Therapy Assistants & Clinical Psychologists.

Through such an approach we are continually learning, developing and findings different ways of working in order to meet the needs and wishes of the individuals we work with. For this reason we have regular team development sessions and each team member plays a vital role in sharing knowledge and information.

We work as a tertiary service between the core hours of 9am until 5pm (Monday-Friday), with some flexibility required on occasion to meet individual need and preferences.

The Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with other agencies. In addition to working with autistic people and their families we have a strong commitment to public health, promotion of safeguarding and effective risk management through service development and training initiatives working within an enthusiastic and experienced team.

A Registered Professional (Nurse, social worker or occupational therapist), with up to date knowledge, of health policy and legislation applicable to autistic people. Adaptability, good communication skills and self-motivation are essential. An experienced clinician with proven skills in working with people who have complex health needs and challenging behaviour and autism, demonstrating practice is evidence based and innovative.

The post holder will be responsible for holding a case load of patients to facilitate a timely discharge from mental health hospital. They will also be expected to deliver autism specific intervention to patients, offer advice and guidance to the clinical teams supporting the patient and share information with those who are most important to the patient.

About us

The post holder will work flexibly between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. The team works flexibly across the whole of the LSCft footprint and travel to patients, community settings and inpatient settings is essential.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered nurse (RLDN, RMN), OT or social worker. Post qualifying experience within the NHS or Local authority.

Desirable

Teaching/Mentorship post-registration qualification

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge and skills in the assessment / management of risk Demonstrates continuing professional development within mental health, learning disability or autism Knowledge of legal frameworks applicable to autistic people Knowledge of contemporary autism policy

Experience Essential

Ability to support autistic people on an individual and group basis. Working with individuals who present behaviours which may challenge services. Experience of working in statutory community or inpatient setting.
