This 4-session role offers an excellent work-life balance with no patient list, no home visits and no duty doctor sessions. You will work within a GP-led total triage model, seeing a manageable number of patients per session and only being responsible for the administration you generate. Whether you are an experienced GP or new to practice, we can offer flexibility, mentoring, daily clinical support and the opportunity to be part of a welcoming team that values collaboration, including daily team huddles and shared lunches.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical services as part of our multidisciplinary primary care team. Duties will include assessing, diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, providing preventative healthcare and health promotion, and undertaking associated clinical administration.
The postholder will work collaboratively with practice colleagues, PCN staff and community services to deliver safe, effective and responsive care. There will be opportunities to contribute to practice development, quality improvement and the training environment, depending on individual interests and experience.

Job Summary
The post-holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical services to registered and temporary patients at The Portchester Practice. Working within a GP-led total triage model, the post-holder will assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care.
This is a non-list holding role. The post-holder will be responsible for the clinical administration generated from their own consultations and will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality primary care services.
Clinical Responsibilities
Undertake face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations as required. Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions. Make professional, autonomous clinical decisions in relation to presenting problems. Develop and implement management plans in partnership with patients. Promote health education, disease prevention and self-management. Review and action pathology results, clinical correspondence and other information arising from own consultations. Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in accordance with local and national guidance. Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services and other healthcare professionals. Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and comprehensive clinical records. Participate in safeguarding activities and fulfil statutory safeguarding responsibilities. Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement and service development activities. Support the education and development of GP Registrars, medical students and other healthcare professionals where appropriate. Undertake all duties expected of a General Practitioner in accordance with GMC standards and NHS contractual requirements.
The post-holder will not be required to undertake routine home visits or duty doctor sessions as part of this role.
Organisational Responsibilities
Comply with all practice policies, procedures and protocols. Contribute to the development and maintenance of high-quality patient records. Participate in practice meetings, educational events and mandatory training. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the practice, Primary Care Network and wider health and care system. Support service improvement initiatives and the achievement of practice objectives.

The post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients, staff and the business of the practice. All information must be treated as strictly confidential and handled in accordance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, NHS guidance and practice policies.
Health, Safety and Infection Prevention
The post-holder is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment and complying with all health and safety and infection prevention requirements. This includes:
Following practice infection prevention and control procedures. Using personal protective equipment appropriately. Maintaining high standards of hand hygiene. Reporting incidents, accidents, hazards and near misses. Ensuring the safe handling of clinical waste, sharps and specimens. Participating in mandatory health and safety and infection control training. Supporting business continuity and emergency response arrangements where required.

The post-holder will fulfil their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk, including maintaining appropriate training and following local and national safeguarding procedures.

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of working in NHS General Practice or completion of GP Specialty Training. Ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic conditions in a primary care setting. Understanding of current NHS and primary care issues.
Desirable
Experience as a Salaried GP or GP Partner. Experience of working within a training practice. Experience of quality improvement projects, audit or service development.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills Essential
Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and management skills. Ability to manage clinical uncertainty and risk effectively. Safe and effective prescribing practice. Understanding of evidence-based medicine and clinical governance. Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities relating to children and adults.
Desirable
Special interest or additional expertise that would benefit the practice population. Experience of teaching or supervising trainees.
Qualifications Essential
MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification. Full GMC registration with licence to practise. Included on the NHS England Medical Performers List. Evidence of continued professional development.
