We have an excellent opportunity for a proven nurse leader here in Rochdale.

Moorside ward is an 18 bedded female ward for adults of working age. We cover the Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale area, and we are part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust that provides mental health care of the Eastern and Northern part of the Greater Manchester region.

The successful candidate must have previous experience in a clinical leadership role on an adult acute ward (minimum Band 6) for at least two years and must have the ability to effectively manage a clinical area.

Main duties of the job

Provide strong and effective leadership to the ward

Provide excellent nursing care that safe and effective

Ensure staff receive clinical and line management supervision every six weeks in accordance with Trust policy

To ensure practice is delivered safely in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, the policies and procedures of Pennine care NHS Foundation Trust, Mental Health Act (1983) and Community Care legislation. To be a visible and proactive clinical leader and role model within the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in the delivery of clinical care on the ward. To ensure that patients, their families and carers are directly involved in decisions which affect their care. To maintain personal contact with patients, their relatives and carers. Being sensitive to their needs for respect, privacy and dignity and to act as a senior point of contact on the ward. To initiate patient focussed interventions and developments, which reflect social, cultural, and spiritual needs. To ensure that high standards of record keeping, patient assessment, care planning, risk assessment and management are delivered on the ward in accordance with the Care Programme Approach. To participate in programmes of audit activities required by the Acute Services Manager.

Key Requirements of the Person Specification:

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and flexible in approach and must have a first level registration (RMN). Applicants must have current UK professional registration with the NMC in mental health nursing.

You will have experience of working in acute in-patient mental health settings at Band 6 or above for a minimum of 2 years and a comprehensive understanding of Mental Illness, knowledge of treatments and interventions appropriate for individuals with acute mental health needs.

You must have strong evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

You should have the ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and CPA process and knowledge of current policy and guidance in relation to the development of Acute Mental Health Services.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

Diploma or Degree in Mental Health profession e.g. RMN RGN DipSW Evidence of post qualification academic achievement or equivalent experience in the relevant area for this post Must have an excellent understanding of both numeracy and English language skills. Certificate in Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA).

Evidence of supervision of qualified junior staff Experience of MDT working. Adult Acute Ward experience at Band 6 and / or evidence of appropriate clinical management experience at Band 6. Must have the ability to effectively manage a clinical area. Proven ability to contribute to the development of ? Experience of ward management. ? Application Form ?
